DENVER, JANUARY 7, 2019 — First Ascent Asset Management, a flat-fee portfolio strategist serving financial advisors, today announced the addition of Charles Burgess, CFA as an independent member of its investment committee.
“Our investment committee is intentionally structured to bring together individuals with deep knowledge and experience but differing viewpoints. This pushes our organization to think differently about the decisions we make and challenges us to continually evaluate our process,” said First Ascent’s Chief Investment Officer, Patrick Krulik. “Chuck brings a deep set of skills and experience that will benefit our team, our portfolios, and most importantly our clients.”
First Ascent’s seven-member investment committee has a unique structure that is designed to bring more objectivity and new perspectives to committee deliberations. A majority of its members are independent, but work closely with First Ascent’s in-house investment team.
“The structure and composition of our investment committee have definitely been a strength of the firm and adding another experienced player like Chuck makes us even stronger,” said First Ascent CEO Scott MacKillop. “I worked with him for eight years at my previous firm and am delighted to be reunited with him. His knowledge and insight will be invaluable.”
Mr. Burgess has 15 years of financial services industry experience. He has served as a Senior Portfolio Manager and member of the investment committee at Frontier Asset Management and previously served as a Senior Fund Analyst at Oppenheimer Funds.
“Chuck’s knowledge, passion, and first-hand experience managing portfolios for financial advisors and their clients brings additional talent to our team,” said Krulik. “He will contribute greatly to our mission of helping the clients of financial advisors reach their long-term goals.”
